  • 1) How do I know if I have gum disease?

    You may experience bleeding with brushing and flossing your teeth, bad taste or bad odor, or discomfort in your mouth.

  • 2) What is periodontal (gum) disease?

    It is an infection of the gums around the teeth. It can result in bone loss and eventual tooth loss if left untreated.

  • 3) How is periodontal disease treated?

    Treatment for periodontal disease can vary, but non- surgical (deep cleaning and/or antibiotics) and surgical forms of therapy exist.

  • 4) Why are X- rays (radiographs) necessary?

    They can confirm the existence of bone loss around teeth and indicate if the infection is localized to a few teeth or many.

  • 5) Why are my gums receding?

    Heredity, poor brushing technique, use of smokeless tobacco, grinding teeth, and orthodontics (forced tooth movement) can contribute to gum recession.

  • 6) Why are my teeth looking longer?

    Bone loss from periodontal disease and gum recession can give the appearance of longer teeth.

  • 7) How can I have gum disease but my mouth doesn't hurt?

    Early forms of periodontal disease can be painless. The disease is generally diagnosed by a dental examination and radiographs. The late stages (advanced) of periodontal disease can be painful.

  • 8) How does Dr. Piotrowski use botox?

    Dr. Piotrowski uses therapeutic botox for dental patients of record to treat teeth clenching or grinding. The positive side effect for botox can be the reduction or elimination of wrinkles in the forehead, above the nose, around the eyes, and around the mouth. Dr. P can easily examine you to determine if you are a candidate for dental botox!

  • 9) How long does botox last?

    Typically around 3 months, but each case varies depending on the location and individual.

  • 10) What are dental implants?

    Implants are used to replace the roots of missing teeth. The implants can be used to replace missing individual crowns or several teeth crowns.

  • 11) What should I do at home to prevent periodontal disease?

    Proper home oral hygiene measures should include brushing twice daily preferably with an electric tooth brush, flossing once a day, and using an oral disinfectant such as Listerine once a day.

  • 12) How often do I need to get my teeth cleaned?

    People who are susceptible to periodontal disease may need frequent cleanings as often as every 3 to four months. Younger people and people resistant to periodontal disease still need cleanings every six months.

  • 13) Is it important to floss my teeth?

    It is important to floss between teeth to reach the areas a tooth brush misses. Flossing is important to remove food, plaque, and buildup that occurs in everybody's mouth in hard to reach spaces.

  • 14) Does getting botox hurt?

    A tiny needle is used for botox injections. Most sites do not even require any anaesthetic.

  • 15) Does periodontal treatment hurt?

    For deep cleanings (non- surgical) and for surgeries, local anaesthetic is always recommended. This can eliminate any pain experienced during therapy. Dr P also offers forms of sedation to relieve anxiety.

  • 16) Does getting dental implants hurt?

    Local anaesthetic is always recommended. This can eliminate any pain experienced from implant therapy.

  • 17) What can be done for my sore or painful gums?

    Dr. Piotrowski can prescribe oral antibiotics to alleviate periodontal abscess' (painful swellings from gum disease).

  • 18) What can be done for my swollen gums?

    Dr. Piotrowski can prescribe oral antibiotics to reduce swollen gums. Non- Surgical forms of treatment can include a deep cleaning.

  • 19) Why do I have bad breath?

    The germs and infection that leads to periodontal disease can release odors that are detectable by you or people close to you.

  • 20) How do I know if I need periodontal surgery?

    Only a skilled dental professional can properly examine your mouth and gums to determine the scope or level of infection that may be present in your mouth.

  • 21) I have dental anxiety. What can be done to overcome fear of dentists?

    Dr. Piotrowski is trained to deliver different forms of sedation dentistry. Sedation dentistry can range from oral tablets picked up from your pharmacy or from IV sedation delivered in the dental office. Dr. P can reduce your level of consciousness so anxiety and awareness is reduced. Dr. P does not deliver generally sedation and it is not expected that you will fall asleep.
